About Us

Our Story

Fort McHenry Division and Training Ship Constellation are proud units of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps, the Navy's premier youth leadership development program.

Serving youth throughout Baltimore and the surrounding areas, our mission is to build leaders of character through a program that emphasizes leadership, teamwork, responsibility, discipline, citizenship, and service.

Hosted at the Naval Reserve Center Baltimore adjacent to historic Fort McHenry National Monument, our cadets participate in monthly drills, community service, leadership development, physical fitness, and specialized training opportunities throughout the year.

Whether a cadet's goal is personal growth, public service, leadership development, or simply taking on new challenges, our unit provides a supportive environment where young people can learn, achieve, and succeed.

Our unit traces its roots to July 1, 1966, when it was commissioned as USS Guavina Division.

Named after the submarine USS Guavina (SS-362), which served as a Naval Reserve training vessel in Baltimore, the unit's heritage is closely tied to Baltimore's naval community and the Naval Reserve training mission that the submarine supported during its service in the city.

As the program expanded to include Navy League Cadets, the unit adopted the name Training Ship Frigate Constellation, honoring Baltimore's maritime heritage and the historic USS Constellation.

Redesignated as Training Ship Constellation in 2000, the unit continues to introduce younger cadets to leadership, teamwork, citizenship, and naval traditions honoring Baltimore's maritime heritage and the historic USS Constellation, one of the city's most recognizable naval landmarks.
