Sea Cadets learn leadership by doing. As cadets advance through the program, they assume increasing levels of responsibility, mentor junior cadets, and develop the communication, decision-making, and teamwork skills needed to lead effectively.
The lessons learned through Sea Cadets help prepare young people for success in school, careers, military service, and life.
Advanced Training Opportunities
One of the most unique aspects of the Sea Cadet program is the opportunity to participate in advanced training programs conducted throughout the United States.
These hands-on training experiences allow cadets to explore a wide variety of fields while learning from military personnel, industry professionals, and experienced instructors.
Travel and Adventure
Sea Cadets provides opportunities to travel beyond the local unit and experience new environments, training locations, and challenges.
Cadets may attend trainings at military installations, maritime facilities, training centers, and educational institutions throughout the country while developing independence, confidence, and lifelong friendships.
International Exchange
Qualified cadets may have opportunities to participate in international exchange programs with partner youth organizations from allied nations.
These exchanges expose cadets to different cultures, broaden their perspectives, and help develop the global awareness expected of future leaders.
Community Service and Citizenship
Sea Cadets are encouraged to serve their communities through volunteer activities, ceremonies, public events, and civic engagement opportunities.
Through service, cadets learn the importance of citizenship, responsibility, and giving back to the communities they call home.
Beyond Sea Cadets
The skills developed through Sea Cadets—leadership, teamwork, discipline, communication, responsibility, and resilience—benefit cadets long after they leave the program.
Sea Cadet alumni have gone on to serve in the armed forces, attend colleges and universities, pursue technical and professional careers, and become leaders in their communities.
While Sea Cadets supports military career exploration, no military obligation is created by participation in the program.
